The libraries could get books even cheaper if they shame the suppliers into waiving their profits 😸

You can see in this video the burned books, furniture and glass have been cleared out of the entranceway. the charred paint has been taken off the ceiling. The tipped over mobile shelving has been propped back up and it looks like there are lots of intact books. I feared more books than those just in the entranceway were used to build the fire, so this is good news. I have seen no video of inside the children's library yet.
It might still be the damage is worse than it looks, I haven't heard the results of a structural survey.

In a difficult week - this gives me hope.
(I've always loved Liverpool.)
I hope that there are as equal good news stories in your area as that library.

Two people, same surname, same street of residence, aged 22 and 27, the younger found inside carrying a computer monitor and the elder outside apparently acting as a lookout, have both pleaded guilty to charges of burglary of the #Spellow Library this morning, says the Liverpool Echo. The elder one had "16 previous convictions for 26 offences, including robbery and burglary".
This is not "political protest".

Really, that's a false equivalence.
The Nazi students who burned books targetted as many copies of specific books that they could get their hands on.
The English criminal gangs who set alight a library were doing plain old arson and theft. Not ideology of any sort; purely criminal opportunism.
Evidence of this is that (per the same #ReachPLC Liverpool Echo, anyway) two 20-somethings have already pleaded guilty to burglary of the #Spellow Library.
