50,000 hens, who were enslaved in dark sheds as machines for producing eggs have been burned alive.
Fifty thousand.
This is just the last of a long series of mass deaths by fire or suffocation caused by industrial farming.
These chickens were bred to be replaceable units of production, so their loss is mostly seen as a blip in the production chain - the CEO of the company commodifying their lives was quick to reassure customers that production would be restored quickly.
This is cruelty towards animals and must top.

Jonathan Leighton writes it much better than I could: we must base our ethics on reducing suffering for all sentient beings, and in particular extreme suffering.
In particular, switching from eating beef to chickens, fish or even insects because it helps with climate change is fundamentally speciesist, it's torturing sentient beings because it helps humans.
We need compassion for sentient beings, not for abstract systems that are not themselves sentient.
Sorry for the medium link, but I think this is worth a read.
