Colonel #Oleh_Babii was in command of the operation. While returning to #Ukrainian territory, the intelligence group was ambushed and engaged in combat with #Russians. On August 30, 2023, while covering the leaving of his fellow soldiers, #Oleh_Babii was mortally wounded and died.

Following recent strikes against Russian military airports in Soltsy and Shaykovka, the Russian Air Force currently fields 27 operable Tu-22M3 strategic bombers, military intelligence chief Kyrylo Budanov said on Aug. 23.
British intelligence suggests that the #drone attack on the #Soltsy airfield in the #Novgorod region of #Russia, where the Tu-22M3 strategic bomber was hit, could have been carried out from Russian territory.
According to the agency, "it is unlikely that the copter UAVs have sufficient range" to reach the Soltsy facility from outside Russia.
