Recent solar activity pushed the aurora closer to us. The Soyuz hangs from the station in a stream of aurora. Soyuz is illuminated in a light blue from a sun behind the camera and in front of the space station that is just about to rise. 1/4s, f1.4, 50mm, ISO 6400

@SkyingClub Automatically! Lived next to Heathrow for many years, so saw just about every make and model of passenger jet under the sun, every 30 seconds or so (and, yes, Concorde was among them). Pretty sure this cemented my childhood association of the sky with adventure.
Today, I live, quite by accident, in a military aviation hotspot, so regularly see F-15s/35s, Eurofighters and Hawks, and we even have a local Spitfire and Tiger Moth in circulation.
We're at the end of #SkyingHour - many thanks to all who joined in.
I'm taking a break from #SkyingHour for August - but watch this space in September! (And I'll still be posting and RTing other peoples #Skying pics.
If you have any comments about the format etc please let me know.
Have a great #Skying month!
@SkyingClub Hello! I'm not sure if this counts, but I've been circling just below some very active thermal clouds this week that were also being enjoyed by birds and fellow glider pilots alike. Conditions aloft have been extremely clear, as we're still in the early days of this high pressure system, so a good view of the ground and the horizon. Earlier in the week, the frontal clouds that heralded these conditions also had some particularly fantastic textures.
A good thing! I love a good thunderstorm.
Except perhaps for the time I was cycling over a moor as one came in. That was a little un-nerving. I had to dismount and cower in a field so as not to be the highest thing.. #SkyingHour #Skying
