The C'wth sloshes billions into #Telstra and #Optus coffers to rollout #5G infrastructure which is wholly inadequate and poorly suited for regional and remote conditions, while even basic phone service is unreliable, patchy or just downright unavailable many people. We need appropriate, rugged, reliable and resilient communications infrastructure, not gimmicks and techwank.

Meanwhile #NBN contemplates retiring #SkyMuster and handing regional and remote users cash and our data over to #JeffBezos and #Amazon through #ProjectKuiper

Rethinking 5G: why faster isn’t always better, especially in regional Australia - Paul Budde Consultancy

Back in 2019, I wrote about what I called “Peak Telecom”—the moment where the traditional telecoms industry hit a ceiling in growth and relevance. The internet had commoditised bandwidth, and telecoms were left managing an expensive infrastructure business, while others—Google, Amazon, Meta—captured the digital value. Five years later, new evidence shows how deeply this shift […]

@Heterokromia Exactly what I want screaming internally at so meetings..... #SkyMuster is right there, people!

@Syulang You might not feel that good about #SkyMuster if you'd ever used it — it has been widely panned by its remote/rural customers as limited, slow, relatively expensive and often unreliable. It seems that a significant number of Skymuster customers have switched to Starlink already and NBNCo. views Starlink as a serious competitive threat to both Skymuster and its fixed wireless broadband services.

I'm no fan of Starlink, but unless we find our remote and rural citizens a better broadband solution pretty quickly then Starlink will take many (perhaps most) of them away from the NBN.

@GottaLaff I am really, really glad that in #Australia we have an independent, publicly owned system with #SkyMuster - though the fact the #RoyalAustralianNavy has been strong-armed in #Starlink is deeply disturbing. If it was not already abundantly clear at this point, #ElonMusk cannot be trusted with either our personal, private data, let alone access to systems critical to the control of heavy weapons.

The day my (shudders, spits over shoulder) #Starlink gear arrives, the #NBN sends a survey on my #SkyMuster experience (licks his lips while sharpening his pencil as he steps forward).

I got this.

Yaay… great going #SkyMuster #NBN
