#Writing #Thinking #SitDownAndWrite

Writing as a thinking tool

In our age of information overload, writing is not just a means of expression. It’s a tool for clarity, comprehension, and connection. If metacognition is your compass, then writing is your map.

I'm doing #SitDownAndWrite this semester from 3-5pm Eastern (US), using the #pomodoro technique of 25 minute working sessions and 5 minute breaks.
@maloki I need to buckle down and make some real progress on the thesis this year, so I'm up for #AmWriting. I'll also be doing more #SitDownAndWrite scheduled group writing
I did my last #SitDownAndWrite session of the semester, and just about finished the first draft of my article, "Creatures in the Stacks: Libraries and Historical Ecology." (I need to work on the conclusion, then it's probably ready to show to others.)
I think the problem with #AcWriMo for me is that academic writing is a very iterative process for me. I don't just produce a bunch of words and then go back and edit/revise. I write a little, then follow a new idea, which includes doing research, and then write some more, which may mean that I need to go a revise what I wrote already, etc. #SitDownAndWrite (at least the way I do it) is more flexible.
For #SitDownAndWrite I got one more report transcribed and about 400 words written (#AcWriMo) on 2 projects.
#SitDownAndWrite and #AcWriMo
I'm sitting here, trying to write, and realizing that I have to reorganize this whole section of my article. Ah, well, back to work.
Half way through this evening's #SitDownAndWrite. I had a student journalist from the campus paper come by. Unfortunately, no one else is here! But I introduced her to the #pomodoro method, and told her about the program. And I've gotten over 500 words added to my article (#AcWriMo) so far.

Halfway through tonight's #SitDownAndWrite. The lights in the room weren't working at first, and I was worried I'd have to move, but they suddenly came on about 10 minutes in and everything is fine now.

I've passed 20,000 data points, with a couple of more months of reports left.

Started #SitDownAndWrite -- this is the first break. 5 minute breaks, 25 minute working sessions.

I'm doing a bunch of small things today - getting the board cleared for the bigger work.
