Just as with customer-service call automated menus, and just as with automated grocery store checkouts

the people in charge resent every dollar spent on us as human beings. The more they can compel us to waste *our* time without *them* paying any worker's hours, the better they like it.

And so we get "Complete these automated rat psychology exams" as a gateway to *maybe* getting any attention from a human for the job application.

#ShittyTechAdoptionCurve

My employer offers #MentalHealth service through a partner organisation. But when I contact that organisation they require I install their specific app, before even talking with anyone who can help me.

I asked what we need to use an app (whose behaviour I can't inspect) for that can't be done on the phone or via email.

They described what sounds like an intake form; I pointed out this evidently *can* be done with just filling out a form, doesn't need me to install an opaque app on my device.

None the less they say that's part of the agreement with my employer, a prerequisite before they provide service.

No, that's not acceptable. There's nothing about engaging a support counsellor that should require proprietary, invasive apps, mandated by an arrangement they made with my employer, to be installed on my device.

#Surveillance #ShittyTechAdoptionCurve

The #ShittyTechAdoptionCurve predicts that technological harms that are first visited upon prisoners and other low-privilege people will gradually work its way up the privilege gradient:

Securus *powered* up the Shitty Tech Adoption Curve. They don't just spy on and exploit prisoners - they leveraged that surveillance empire into a line of product lines that touch us *all*.
