Heard a terrific concert tonight, Xian Conducts Gershwin at Seattle Symphony with Hélène Grimaud piano, concerto in F. Her encore was a reflective piece, like an elegy, by Ukrainian composer, Valentin Silvestrov. We had attended the open rehearsal this morning, and this performance was dazzling. Porgy and Bess, and finishing with An American in Paris. Jazzy brass, lively winds, great cooperative spirit.

Seattle is failing its #trees, #salmon, #orcas, and other life by lifting environmental protections in favor of developers building apartments and homes. Jennifer Godfrey, bass player with the #SeattleSymphony, is taking the lead in trying to reverse course before it's too late to keep the urban environment viable. Read this very good article by Alex Fryer from the #SeattleTimes at https://www.seattletimes.com/opinion/the-orca-appeal-one-musicians-challenge-of-the-remaking-of-seattle/ and see what you might want to do about it.

Biked to Benaroya Hall for a Seattle Symphony concert. Good thing the underground garage has a cycle rack (albeit a bad one).

Attending last night’s concert: all as May says. McGegan’s performance informed by erudition & practice was well promoted with the Symphony Players’ exquisite & enduring energy. Wowed by the motets and their arrangements, we didn’t expect so complete a staging of “Dream.” Astonishing in its support for Shakespeare’s humor and insight into his critiques of the pastoral genre, this performance breathed life into Mendelssohn’s own enchantments.

More Memeteria. Thomas May reviews the Seattle Firebird and it comes out Poulenc's Stabat Mater. We saw this concert last night and the Poulenc, and breathtaking Soprano Janai Brugger.
