We got pizza after voting last night, because my evening had been too full/stressful to cook. And as we got out of the car at the pizza place, we heard a red-winged blackbird. A nearby tree was full of them, plus the grackles who love to party with them.

It's blackbird/grackle spring break, y'all!

#Catbird has been singing from the quince, from the wild plum, from the rhododendrons. Hoping he and his mate nest here; we certainly have a great landscape for catbirds!

CATBIRD! Catbird is back!

Red Squirrel neighbor has been sounding off all day, every day, for over a week now. Red squirrels are the only squirrels who defend a territory year-round, but that defense clearly accelerates in spring.)

Important news: It's a beautiful day here in the Abenaki Dawnlands. Pileated woodpeckers, yellowthroats, and white-throated sparrows are doing their thing. Wild oats are flowering, trillium are budding, tamaracks are leafing out, and tadpoles are hatching.

Just looked outside - the ground is crawling with robins.

I saw a vulture! The vultures are back!

The chipmunks are out of hibernation! We live in a cold pocket, so probably I'm one of the last folks in our area to see one.

Yesterday as I left the house, I startled a deer in the rosebushes. Then I saw a hawk (probably a red-tail, but I didn't get a clear view) on the drive to work.

Today I drove under a flock of turkeys.
