Ha del clamoroso ciò che è stato scoperto dalla polizia nepalese: alcune guide del Monte Everest sono state accusate, a seguito di un’indagine, di aver avvelenato segretamente alpinisti stranieri. Con quale scopo? Costringerli a ricorrere a operazioni di soccorso – tendenzialmente, in elicottero – tali da generare una frode, nei confronti delle assicurazioni stipulate dagli alpinisti, di circa 20 milioni di euro.
La truffa – scrivono il New York Post e il The Independent – che ha già causato 11 arresti, avrebbe coinvolto, tra il 2022 e il 2025, la bellezza di 4.782 alpinisti stranieri mentre la polizia ha dichiarato di aver scoperto oltre 300 casi di presunti falsi salvataggi, con fatture per un totale di quasi 20 milioni di euro addebitate agli stessi scalatori e alle compagnie assicurative.

What is truly astonishing is what the Nepalese police discovered: several Mount Everest guides have been accused, following an investigation, of secretly poisoning foreign climbers. What was the purpose? To force them to request rescue operations – predominantly by helicopter – designed to create a fraud, against the insurance policies taken out by the climbers, worth approximately 20 million euros.

The scam – as reported by the New York Post and The Independent – which has already resulted in 11 arrests, involved a total of 4,782 foreign climbers between 2022 and 2025, while the police have discovered over 300 cases of alleged false rescues, with bills totaling almost 20 million euros charged to the climbers themselves and the insurance companies.
