Massimiliano Gallo is also saying “enough” to Imma Tataranni, the farewell after Vanessa Scalera’s: “I hope to return to Basilicata as a director, not with a fiction.”
Following the departure of Vanessa Scalera, Massimiliano Gallo has also announced that he will be leaving Imma Tataranni-Substitute Prosecutor. Those who hoped for a surprise – namely, the announcement of a sixth season of one of Rai’s most successful series of recent seasons – must accept the facts. “I believe it’s the natural order of things… things have a beginning and an end,” Scalera had said during the press conference for the fifth season, announcing her intention to leave the character that had consecrated her as one of the most beloved actresses by the general public. Despite consistently excellent ratings and the boom in stories written by the Lucanian writer Mariolina Venezia – with whom she had also engaged in heated public exchanges with words like “ungrateful” and “you owe me nothing” – Scalera had therefore closed the doors to a possible return in the role of the most beloved substitute prosecutor on television.
This decision was also shared by Massimiliano Gallo, who in the fiction set in Matera played Imma’s husband, Pietro De Ruggeri. “With Imma Tataranni no, but I hope to return to this region as a director. In fact, I’m working on the second film and I’m trying to figure out if I’ll be able to bring part of the filming to Basilicata. It’s a remarkable land because it belongs to me,” Gallo announced a few hours ago during the presentation of “La Salita,” the film marking his directorial debut which is currently touring the halls of Basilicata. Those who had hypothetically envisioned spin-offs of all kinds, from prequels to sequels, must also take into account Gallo’s forfeit, who is increasingly focused on other projects between cinema and television (including the fiction “Malinconico-Successful Lawyer”).
It remains to be seen whether it will end in great style with a film about Imma, a hypothesis not entirely dismissed by one of the series’ scriptwriters, Salvatore De Mola. “It would also allow Vanessa to not commit herself too much. A two-hour film takes four weeks to shoot,” he explained a few weeks ago to FanPage. “Therefore, replacing the series with a film was considered an option. It always depends on the willingness to continue, if you decide to continue then a method is found.” For now, however, it’s just fantasy TV.
