Encontro preparatório para COP 31 termina com recuo no apoio financeiro para mudanças climáticas e pressão contra a ciência
See https://www.carbonbrief.org/bonn-climate-talks-key-outcomes-from-the-june-2026-un-climate-conference/ for a good overview of the #SB64 climate conference in Bonn.
'Many countries criticised “coordinated attacks” on science by those with “fossil-fuel interests”
When asked which parties were behind these “attacks”, Sivendra Michael, chief negotiator for Fiji, told Carbon Brief:
“It is the usual suspects that seek to block progress…We are seeing efforts to remove references to the IPCC and the 1.5C temperature limit.”'
Press conference under the banner of "Friends of Science" (not to be confused with a science denialist group of the same name), to call out the various efforts to undermine climate science in the climate negotiations, as during the past two weeks in Bonn. #SB64
Back from two weeks in Bonn for the annual #UNFCCC climate change conference #SB64 (sort of a pre-COP).
Final agreed text on science has no discussion of tipping points, the prevalence of mis- and disinformation, to 1.5 degree pathways, or to emission reduction. All negotiated away by a few parties, who are accusing others of what they're themselves guilty of.
Still, avoiding damage is also crucially important, given the far-reaching implications of the UNFCCC process.
The #SB64 climate talks, held in Bonn, Germany, have ended with a deadlock among parties over a proposed text on the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA). 🌍

The SB64 climate talks, held in Bonn, Germany, have ended with a deadlock among parties over a proposed text on the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA).
From consensus-based gridlock & undue corporate influence to shrinking civic space, ISDS & dangerous climate distractions, #SB64 highlighted how structural flaws continue to weaken climate governance.
Will governments deliver a much-needed reform of the UNFCCC?
#SB64 outcome from CAN:
❌Bad result for Adaptation.
👏Better result for Just Transition.
Overall, it’s unclear if governments are prepared or willing to take the decisions needed at #COP31 to deliver true climate action for people.

Things are hotting up at #SB64.
Stepping out of the plenary, Jacobo Ocharan of Climate Action Network explains why the talks are still running late: the biggest fault line remains #Finance. key questions remain on #Adaptation.
In the final hours of #SB64, Parties are still struggling to turn commitments into implementation.
As we look ahead to #COP31, this pattern of delay can't continue.
Climate action & climate justice, from #JustTransition to #Adaptation Finance, cannot remain promises on paper.
