To get a sense of how the engineering challenges of electrification can be met, read McArthur fellow #SaulGriffith's great book *Electrify*:

To really understand the transformative power of solar, don't miss @debcha's *How Infrastructure Works*, and learn that we could give every person on Earth the energy budget of a Canadian (like an American, but colder) by capturing just 0.4% of the solar rays that reach Earth's surface:

And then get much closer to home - your kitchen, to be precise - with the *Food and Climate Change* volume:

Reading Chachra's book, I kept thinking about #SaulGriffith's amazing *Electrify*, a shovel-ready book about how we can effect the transition to a fully electrified America:

Climate Change Recalculated | Saul Griffith

#SaulGriffith is one of the people who got me into #EnergyTransition work with his #LongNow talk in 2009.

A nice chat with @drvolts about the #ClimateChange policies and politics of his Australian homeland:

A conversation with Saul Griffith

While I was in Australia, I caught up with everyone's favorite electrification guru to talk about the Inflation Reduction Act, Australia's possible counterpart, the country's wildly cheap rooftop solar, its future exports of green iron ore, and much else. Turns out he's still really smart!

Australia’s hydrogen “superpower” dream could be massive waste of money, says Griffith

Rewiring Australia’s Saul Griffith tells government putting hydrogen at the centre of Australia’s energy future makes no economic or thermodynamic sense.

RenewEconomy

This is a vital piece of legislation that would help more homes #ElectrifyEverything, as per the #SaulGriffith plan.

#AllegraSpender supports cheaper batteries bill

Back in the house and Wentworth independent MP Allegra Spender is backing #HelenHaines’ bill for cheaper batteries:

Cheaper home batteries are a climate and a cost of living imperative for all Australia. But without a helping hand from government, we won’t achieve the pace of uptake that we need.

Because although home batteries are coming down in price all the time, the up-front costs of between $7,000 and $15,000 remain a significant barrier for many.

This is one of the reasons why only 35,000 households installed a battery in 2021, the most recent year for which data is available.

@Jgmeadows @breadandcircuses @whitepineswhisper I would disagree. I think most people who are concerned about climate change are doing what they think they can, but also aren't doing the math on what it would really take, e.g. reduced demand, etc. Hard to convince even good people that their lifestyle may be unsustainable, or what they can actually do about it. Easier to put the blinders on and keep driving 100 miles a day on the fresh pavement in the shiny EV.

Older, but worth a listen if you have the time: https://longnow.org/seminars/02015/sep/21/infrastructure-and-climate-change/ #SaulGriffith #LongNow

@rwba of course that should be #SaulGriffith not Soul … 😳
