For one of my college assignments we were asked to do some world building. I decided to show what Sable's herbology and stone magic book would look like from my comic, Sable & Aster.
I already owned the leather-bound sketchbook, and we drove back to where I grew up and walked into a forested areas to take photos of it for this assignment. I loved being back there amongst the ceders and ferns and moss again!
When I took the photos the pages were blank white. All the content of the pages was added later using photoshop. I painted the little watercolour bits separately from the text, which I wrote with a nib pen, and used charcoal to do Sable's scribbles. The grime was added in photoshop, too.
I'm pleased with how the compositing came out, how it looks like all the content is just naturally there. Not so pleased with the design of the content itself, I really fell down on that, but I'm still proud of it. :)
Just thought I'd share some old work.
(I'll do some vague description in the alt text, but I don't have the spoons to transcribe all of the text in the books; #Alt4Me if you feel up to that ((and can read my handwriting))! Thank you. <3)
