Well, deadlines have come and gone. It looks like I won't be playing #soccer this summer.
The #SRCSL teams aren't interested in a 40-year-old rookie, even though I lost 50 lbs and am probably in the best shape I've ever been.
As for the #GSSC co-ed league, I asked around, and the average age is about 24... Too big a gap for me to enjoy playing & make local friends around my age.
I guess I'll have to content myself with the kids' games & watching #AtleticoOttawa.
Update on the #SRCSL team hunt:
My conversation with the first team that contacted me ended with a very polite "I'm waiting to hear back from some other people; we'll let you know."
That's a polite way of saying that if no one else comes along, you'll do.
Oh well, hopefully, I'll hear from another team soon. I may need to resign myself to playing with (much) younger folk, though.
The other game in town, Greater Sudbury Soccer Club (#GSSC), does have open enrolment in a co-ed league.
The catch is, I'm 40 and from the photos from last year, most of these folks are maybe 27. I want to play with folks my age and make some local friends with which to watch matches, which seems unlikely there.
The registration deadline is the same as it is for #SRCSL as well, so I'll have to pivot quickly if/when it becomes necessary.
Fingers crossed! Hopefully, I will find a squad.
So, the registration here for summer #soccer (for adults) is more complicated than was initially stated in February.
Sudbury Regional Competitive Soccer League (#SRCSL) has 8 teams. Each team recruits players...
If someone wants to play, they need to let the league manager (Tony) know, and Tony reaches out to the teams to see if any are looking for players.
Then the teams contact you and see if you're what they need.
My zero experience on pitch probably isn't going to help me here...

Eventually, for my step routine, I want to upgrade the ankle weights all the way to 5 lbs, and the hand weights should be up as high as 7 lbs.
For April, I'm just hoping to go to 3 lbs Ankles in the first week or so, and 5 lbs dumbells by the end.
With some luck, I should be able to actually get outside by the end of the month and can start running & biking.
I'm really looking forward to my first season in the #SRCSL and to both my kids playing for #GSSC. I need to be fit enough to keep up!
Finally, I added the #AtleticoOttawa matches to my calendar. Looks like I'll miss out on three late-night mayches over the summer. I'll have to watch the match the day after instead.
I was disappointed to see that even though my birthday falls on the weekend, my #CanPL team isn't playing.
I can watch the #CavalryFC vs. #YorkUnitedFC match that day. I'm fairly certain my match will be over when they kick off, but the #SRCSL schedule isn't made yet.
What about the Canadian Championship?
I'm thinking #CanChamp, but there's other stuff that may use that as well. Could also go with #CC2023, but I kinda like the idea of using a single hashtag regardless of year.

Just heard back from the President of the Sudbury Regional Competitive Soccer League (#SRCSL) regarding a handful of questions I had about the upcoming 2023 season.

Inexperienced players are welcome.
If you need a team, just let the president know, and they will shop you around.
Registration happens in April, and while the rate isn't set yet, best to budget $200.
