Gamma: The Dev Handheld Gamers Depend On

No amount of extra power, ergonomics, increased battery life, UI fluff, higher resolution, glowing lights, benchmarks, etc. in your hardware in your handheld hardware will entice me if your device is sans an OLED screen. I have been enthralled with the visuals and colors and blacks(!) and I can't go back.
Having Windows as your OS of choice in crafting that hardware isn't going help your case either.
I asked some questions on r/SBCGaming recently about features I want to see in a gaming handheld. "Can you play music with the lid closed?" "Does it have Linux support?" "Can I put a custom menu on the bottom screen?"
I got a lot of downvotes, and a few dismissive comments like "those are all just software problems, right?" "I don't know what OP is complaining about, just install an app for that."
I'm like... my guy, do you think apps are magic? do you think software just exists because someone *thinks* about it??? software support is awful, especially on third party devices.
Remember how on Android you can't give apps access to your SD card anymore, and the new "apps have to request a file location" thing isn't backwards compatible, so lots of accessibility software is dead and it's entirely Google's fault? That's "just software problems" and it's been plaguing us for over ten years. Software is HARD.
So yeah I'm not gonna spend $300 on a device unless I have some reason to believe its software is going to be supported, thanks. What the fuck.
okay, drawing a line in the sand: I will not buy a dual-screen device until it can do THIS.
all the commercials for the Ayn Thor are like "you could play a game and watch youtube at the same time!" and all the comments on reddit are like "you could emulate DS games!" but neither of those use cases really understand what a bottom screen is GOOD for, which is to be ANY CONTROL SCHEME YOU WANT.
With very few exceptions (cough Partners in Time cough), this "any controls you want" gimmick was THE best trick in the DS's lineup. If we make a dual-screen PC gaming device that doesn't let you make custom control panels on the bottom screen, we have FAILED.
and if android won't let you do this, then DITCH. ANDROID.
Android emulation in danger? Good for Linux?
I’m sure we’ve all seen the posts about the upcoming developer changes on Android and the panic about it affecting emulation. I’m curious if I’m the only person who’s tentatively thrilled that this might make Linux the better choice for high end handhelds. I prefer Linux on an ideological and ease of setup and use. My biggest complaint is of course battery drain. But if this gets more eyes on Linux I’m curious if something like Rocknix will have better sleep function on handhelds like the Odin. Just thinking that this could be the silver lining of all this
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (PSP) On RP3+
Any tips on running this game? For some reason this is the only game in my library that really struggles to run. God of war runs full speed for me at 2X resolution, but even at 1X this game needs frame skip and is still struggling (Especially with the lightning effect on the main title screen)
