Something that keeps sitting with me since yesterday's #FL House vote on #SB300: one of the Republican Reps compared this bill to "protecting sea turtle and eagle eggs". He then let the plot slip by saying they need to go further and take on birth control.
It's not just that I find it disgusting to be compared to a sea turtle (I love them, but I'm not an endangered species.) It's that it's so disingenuous. Over and over in my life, here and in #OH, I've heard Repubs say they're protecting the environment. Then they go on to sell that land for development, pat themselves on the back when a new pond is made to "protect the swamp/marsh/wetland", and then roll back environmental protections.
So, no, I don't buy it and I would very much like them to stop with this charade of reasonability

#FL House votes to send #SB300 to the governors desk without any amendments
This now makes it illegal to obtain an #abortion after 6 weeks. Exceptions for rape, incest, and fetal abnormality must be proven. In the case of threat to a woman's life, she needs two doctors to agree and write a signed statement.

Florida's 6-week abortion ban, #SB300, passes the Senate (26-13).

All members of the public have been kicked out of the #FLSenate.

The Senate will pass the abortion bill #SB300 later this afternoon with nobody from the public present in the senate gallery.

#SB300, titled the Pregnancy and Parenting Support billl, would prevent abortions after 6 weeks of pregnancy, but allows exemptions in the cases of rape and incest. Women would have to provide documentation from police, court, or medical records to prove they are victims.

What *may* be on the #Florida Senate calendar for Thursday 3/30 is #SB300 which is the 6-week abortion ban bill. It is currently on Second Reading, so if the floor receives the bill, they will be talking about amendments and holding discussion on it. I encourage you to watch, if you can, and send letters to senators! Seriously! We've already had contact with a few who are seriously questioning their support of the bill, so reach out if you can!
