Russian authorities are secretly classifying more state statistics, from demographics to law enforcement data. Since January, 425 indicators vanished from #Rosstat’s EMISS, leaving only 42% of planned stats accessible and up to date.
The Moscow Times reports that #Russia #Rosstat has removed detailed demographic statistics from its website – the Demographics section has simply disappeared from public view. The latest data from March was provided without a breakdown by region, and since April there has been no data at all.

В опубликованном на этой неделе докладе о социально-экономическом положении России за май не оказалось привычной информации о естественном приросте населения, количестве рождений и смертей, браков и разводов, миграции и даже о численности населения. «Раздел "Демография" попросту отсутствует» в докладе, возмущаются аналитики MMI. Детальную статистику Росстат уже закрыл. В опубликованном в мае отчете «О естественном движении населения» за первый квартал и март оказались только общие цифры, без разбивки по регионам. С тех пор раздел не обновлялся, данных за апрель там нет – даже таких. Тепер стали недоступны даже самые общие цифры. «Нас полностью лишили информации о количестве людей в стране, сколько их рождается, сколько умирает», – констатирует MMI. Последние доступные данные таковы: на 1 апреля численность населения составляла 146,1 млн человек, сократившись с начала года на 61,1 тыс.
