There’s a character in Spring Unending whose name is 惠姑 Huìgū, and when I heard her name, I immediately thought of the word 蟪蛄 huìgū (cicada) that is in my Anki. Not the same characters, but the same pronunciation, so I’m sure the association is intended.
So I made a quick search to see what kind of cicada 蟪蛄is. It’s called Kempfer cicada in English and is mostly found in China, Russia, Korea, Japan.
The word 蟪蛄 also appears in the expression 蟪蛄不知春秋 (huìgū bù zhī chūn qiū) The cicada doesn’t know Spring nor Autumn, that underlines its short lifespan, and I believe it’s also used to reflect on our limited knowledge of the world.
