I believ it has the potential to be used as a substitute for the digital circuits that control appliances.
This may need a bit of reverse engineering but if we share our solutions on the web we may find a way to recondition those appliances too and maybe even improve them.
Basically, retrofitting old appliances to resurrect them. Some call this practice "retromancy". I love the term.
