I sometimes wonder what makes nerds older than me being attached to obviously americanized properties and stay as hardcore fans for so many years but refuse to watch or at least learn more about the original franchises before being adapted. That goes to stuff like Tranzor Z, #Robotech, #Voltron and to some extension, Showa and early Heisei #Godzilla.
