Wizards of the Coast/D&D studios is hemorrhaging money! Why are they sending expensive care packages around to their YouTube shills? Has WotC forgotten how to make a quality product at an affordable price? Is this the best they can do? #DnDBegone

#RealGameIndustry - cool and inspiring or tragic and depressing? I'm somewhere in the middle on this as my experience with the leaders of the TTRPG industry has been fairly negative. How do you get experience when no one will hire you to get it?

I Found Out I’m Never Going to Amount to Anything.

Partially a pity party, partially some hard truths about the #RealGameIndustry as far as I can tell. It’s my opinion. Feel free to contact me and prove me wrong.

The 2 game companies I have done the most work for in the past 20 years (other than RGG) are Green Ronin and Paizo.
I'm huge a fan of both companies, and their products, AND of the people who work for them, and would happily work for either of them again.

Hey ttRPG publishers.
Your layout artists aren't advertisers, art directors, developers, editors, or producers (unless you arrange and pay for those services).
Don't ask them to find art, get stuff from multiple people, edit, write ad copy, etc.
Have a contract.

What ttRPG is most played and/or popular with a specific group or in a specific store, game club, convention, city, state, or region is a terrible metric for figuring out what is most popular, or even in the top 10, in a country or worldwide.

The ttRPG industry chews up creatives, burns them out, and drives them away.
If people stay complicit in doing this (both fans and the business side), things will never improve by as much as they need to.
A few fans tear creatives down for the fun of it.

@[email protected]:The reason you don't know how you are supposed to get your first gig, climb the ladder of TTRPG freelance, get the attention of developers and producers without annoying them, or improve your craft, is that game companies mostly don't know those things either.
