2. 'Open Veins of Latin America' by Eduardo Galeano (Uruguay).
What I learned:
everything! even considering its age (1971) and the author's beliefs, it's incomparable. I'm sure there are newer books about the history and social economics of Latin America but I doubt they're as gripping and captivating as this one. It changed my way of thinking. it was also a very hard pill to swallow for my ignorant self. I recommend!
