I have some old clothes I sometimes wear if I'll be with the boys for a while. Rats chew and scent mark and I'm not great at buying enough clothes at the best of times.

Of course show a rat a space they can nose into and they will climb in. I've had a squabble inside my trousers already this morning.

The "babies" are still growing a bit. The numbers are creeping up on their weekly weigh-ins. Champers' weight has recovered from the operation.

Dash and Rose are bored and looking to be entertained.

I had to separate my mischief into two cages because the 3 new sisters are just too tough and boisterous for my 3 older rats. Especially Saffy, who's quite fragile and almost completely blind, they gang up on her, poor little thing!

I don't have space for two big cages, so I got one new small cage, and they have to take turns in the big cage. This morning the sisters are in the smaller cage and they're frustrated.

I'll let them play on the sofa just now, we've got a game where they chase a straw around, and take breaks to groom me.

I am, apparently, an absolute mess, the amount of thorough and systematic grooming I require.

Maybe because of the cooler weather, the rats have been hard at work lining their beds with newspaper scraps.

The older rats took a relaxed approach and created quite a comfortable nest for themselves. The 3 young sisters, in contrast, hoarded every scrap of newspaper in their cage and absolutely stuffed their bed so full that there was barely any space for them to crawl inside.

(I've seperated the old and young rats in separate cages because there was just too much bullying going on)

My rats are prone to respiratory infections so I regularly put them in a nebulizer to prevent them getting sick.

The older three have grown used to it, as you can see, Nicodemus is grooming Saffy.

The younger three are little drama queens and still make a fuss. See Rose spreading her little hand out like Spock in the Wrath of Khan.

I'm getting to know the 3 new rat sisters a bit better.

Rose and Dash look nearly identical, but they're so different from one another that they're instantly recognisable.

Dash is confident and in command. She'll push herself into my hand and then crouch there calmly accepting caresses, while giving me a thorough but gentle manicure.

Rose is nervy and suspicious, and quite intense. She'll insist on trying to pull my wedding ring off with her teeth, not caring if she nips me in the process. Always moving.

Cinnamon is private and a little withdrawn. She allows me to stroke her, cuddling quietly under my hand for a while, and then she's off to do her own thing. She also spits when she's annoyed! Feisty little thing 😅
