On #ThisDayInHistory in 1774 the #QuarteringAct was enacted, which allowed troops to stay in unoccupied residences & barns, i.e., it mostly offended landlords. That said, conservatives continue to oppose individual rights to privacy, autonomy, and inviolability of personal space.
With the #SevenYearsWar completed and France already expelled from North America, the #QuarteringAct — passed on #ThisDayInHistory in 1765 — was a solution without a problem. It did, however, give to the American Colonies an issue to inspire indignity and revolutionary ferment.
