@WhiteCatTamer @chu @Samvega in the US, recent Supreme Court decisions make broad regulations difficult to endure. We need a #PriceOnPollution / #priceoncarbon
@SeanCasten
All reading that perspective opinion did was reinforce to me how badly we need a #PriceOnPollution through a #CarbonTax to help address our market failures.

Here in the U.S. (and probably most countries) we only have elections every other year when we can elect legislators that would be willing to put a #PriceOnPollution or otherwise restrict fossil fuel use somehow.

So, in the interim in order to more quickly get people to decarbonize we've got to work on getting the fossil fuel consumers to stop buying them.

It should be socially unacceptable to burn fossil fuels.

Saudi Arabia's oil sales killed over a thousand of their pilgrims this Hajj.

Not many people have been trying to convince people to decarbonize longer than have I because as a scientist I knew what damage the greenhouse gases were going to cause.

I'm glad that we're installing renewables at ever increasing rates, but I'm worried because electricity demand is increasing at faster rates

Hopefully, after this year's elections the USA will put a #PriceOnPollution

With all of these new carbon taxes starting, these researchers have been able to evaluate the effect they've had.

Between 5 and 21% emission reductions: this is the empirically measured effect of carbon pricing systems in their first few years of operation. #PriceOnPollution https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-024-48512-w

Systematic review and meta-analysis of ex-post evaluations on the effectiveness of carbon pricing - Nature Communications

Carbon pricing policies are adopted in many countries around the world to mitigate climate change. This systematic review shows that significant emission reductions of between 5 and 21% are achieved by at least 17 out of 21 reviewed policy schemes.

There's no bigger political tool than purchasing decisions since they can impact inflation which drives low-information voters' decisions the most.

When regular gas prices in Seattle blew past $5 last month, it appeared to play into the hands of conservative activists and politicians who say the surefire way to bring down fuel prices is repealing Washington state’s most ambitious climate policy: a cap-and-trade program.

The fossil fuel industry and their investors should fund the UN's Green Climate Fund at a bare minimum.

Let's put a #PriceOnPollution

Putting a #PriceOnPollution is good to do!

Two weeks of talks at the United Nations shipping agency concluded in London on Friday, with a clear majority of countries emerging in favor of introducing the world's first-ever global emissions levy.

The International Maritime Organization held its latest round of negotiations to discuss how to move forward on the climate regulation of the shipping industry, which accounts for around 3% of global carbon emissions.
