So, it turned out that my little setup of playing with just a distortion pedal and no amp, into a bluetooth speaker, just was not loud enough to deal with even a busy pub tent of people.
But then, it turned out the camp next to us had a proper stage and amp setup. So I put in my name for playing my set, with their proper setup, at 7pm.
And then another camp starts up Roomba wars (you cover them in spikes and put a balloon on each and put them in a little arena, and see who pops first. Great fun). So I'm like okay, I'll wait until they're done. Then half way though, the actual proper bands start up on the main stage.
The guy from the camp I was going to play at suggested waiting until the band finished and then jumping in the gap before the next one.
And then the band stops, and I'm like well it's now or fucking never!
I get on stage, and!...
...my distortion pedal's battery is dead.
So I bolt to my tent, grab a spare, slap it in. My friends gather in the audience. And I play my heart out.
Celestial Crown, Barael's Blade, Freya, Winter's Wolves and finishing with The Horned Godess. It went off. I had a ball, and my friends loved it.
And it felt fucking great to scream "SPILLER OF THE SILVER BLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD" into the mic as I finished Barael's Blade, that's for sure.
Next time I'm going to bring a tuner, though, I was a little out of tune, and it made some of the chrords a bit rough. I was string bending to try to get more into tune. But still! An amazing experience, and a great first go.
