New collection: *Polykastro and along the A1/E75, Greece* (5-13 May 2016, https://pix.joenepraat.nl/c/835201164149764147). Related and the continuation of the collection 'Idomeni, Greece' (https://pix.joenepraat.nl/c/834486164830621697).

This first post are pictures from #Polykastro (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polykastro). The first two are from the town itself and the rest is from a warehouse at the edge of the town, where donated clothes, shoes, etc. were sorted. I also volunteered for a day. Except the final photo is from the other side of the street of the Park Hotel, the HQ of the volunteers (like Hot Food Idomeni).

Welcome to my new Pixelfed account, hosted on my own Pixelfed server!  Finally I did it! Here I'm going to publish older images from various travels I made through the years. I'm going to post these in multiple posts with max. 20 images. The first 4 of those are federated to Mastodon, but you can click through to the original post on Joene's Pixelfed. 🚀 These posts will be collected in… 🎉 surprise… collections (only on Joene's Pixelfed).

The first batch is from 5-13 May 2016 in #Idomeni (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idomeni) and the surrounding area. This was a refugee camp in the north of #Greece at the then militarized border of #NorthMacedonia, that was short after my visit evicted by the Greek government (https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-36358891). Originally I went there for my study journalism, but this didn't work out. I found volunteering much more important. 📢 A shout out to Hot Food Idomeni (https://www.facebook.com/Hotfoodidomeni)! This collective of mostly #anarchists cooked every day for more than 5,000 #refugees. They had their camp in/near a motel just outside #Polykastro (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polykastro). There was also another collective that did the same, but cooked on the camp. They spoke Spanish, but I forgot their name.
