Update from Fishlake National Forest:

Size: 70,362 acres
Containment: 26%

A community meeting regarding the fire will take place today (Saturday, August 9) at 7:30 p.m. Please meet at the Sorensen Administrative Building on the Snow College Campus, located at 800 West 200 South, Richfield, Utah, 84701. There is also a virtual option available through Teams at this link. No login is required.

Situation: Crews in Monroe Canyon continue to hold and strengthen line with the help of masticators and chippers. Crews were able to get line around the slop-over near Washburn and are mopping up. Holding the south line remained successful with night shift. Crews will continue to tie in islands inside the black. On Glenwood Mountain, firefighters continue mopping up and snagging around the communications sites.

Firefighters are watching for heat in Andersen Canyon and Flat Canyon to target hot spots. Around Water Canyon, crews continue working to connect the two ridges with fireline as well as working the bottom of the canyon, slowly walking the fire down until it pinches itself off. On Glenwood Mountain, firefighters are anticipating the new wind direction to tuck into the fire and help secure that area. Around Long Flat, crews are expecting to get islands of unburned fuel fired out to further reduce the spotting threat.

The fire is 63,653 acres per the perimeter uploaded to the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC), which is visible on the Watch Duty map under the Active Fire Perimeters map layer.

Note: Fire perimeters are preliminary and indicate general burn area but do not reflect structure protection efforts by firefighters. A structure within a fire perimeter may not be damaged or destroyed.

Another weather driven run happened on the north side of Indian Peak, but was stopped on the ridgeline when the fire reached the 2016 Indian Peak Rx. A vegetation shift from timber to oak-hickory and the regenerated aspen stands created by the prescribed burn helped slow the fire. Firefighters worked through the night to catch spots as the wind carried embers over the ridgeline.

A third run occurred near the recent Cove Fire and Bear Valley Road. Firefighters engaged and utilized retardant drops and other aircraft to help contain the spot fires that had crossed the constructed dozer line. The combined efforts of crews on the ground and aircraft halted the fire’s progression. Firefighters hope to conduct small tactical firing operations in the coming days to burn out small pockets of fuels and strengthen the line.

Firefighters continued prepping the Little Springs Road with the help of a masticator. Crews are looking for options to conduct tactical firing operations in the coming days, should conditions allow, in order to create a larger fire break that will help prevent any more runs towards Monroe.

8/3/25 Morning update from Fishlake National Forest on Facebook

Size: 58,795 acres
Containment: 4%
Total Personnel: 1,503

Weather: Today is the first day in nine days that the fire has not been under red flag conditions due to slightly lower wind speeds, however, we remain in a fire weather watch. Wind speeds today will be in the teens, rather than the twenties as they have been. Temperatures around the fire have been in the high 80s and low 90s. Humidities across the landscape have been around 5%. Fuel moistures remain historically low at around 8%. Red flag conditions are expected to return tomorrow and persist into the future.

Situation: Yesterday, warm temperatures and low humidities allowed the fire to make an afternoon run that burned from Manning Meadows Reservoir to the 2014 Box Creek Rx and the 2012 Box Creek Rx. When the fire reached the prescribed burn, the fire was pushed north, running back into itself and burning out. The prescribed fire helped prevent an evacuation of the Box Creek Spike Camp, allowing firefighters to remain in the area and close to their operation zone.

Current Situation: SUN was another day of active fire behavior, partly due to the fuels in the path of the advancing fire, as well as the critical fire weather in the area... The most active part of the fire is on the northern & eastern end near Elk Country, Porters, Big Lake, & Long Flat. Firefighters observed intense fire activity in those areas & were engaged in structure protection.

Firefighters working north of the fire will implement defensive actions for structures in the Long Flat & Porter's areas. Crews are prepping roads in the Big Lake area to be used as fire lines. Additionally, crews are constructing dozer lines west of the Bear Valley Road along utility corridors to catch the fire in a favorable location should it move downslope.

Like yesterday, the western side of the fire remains active in the lower portions of Monroe Canyon & on Monkey Flat. Flames and smoke from both areas are visible from the town of Monroe. Here the fire is slowly backing through pockets of intermittent fuel and steep terrain. Crews are working in the First Lefthand Creek drainage to prepare fire line along Road 162.

Weather: A Red Flag Warning is in place through Monday…hitting the upper 80’s at 7,000’. Relative humidity remains in the low teens and winds will continue from the SW with gusts up to 30 mph.

July 27 update from US Forest Service Fishlake National Forest

Special Emphasis: The Monroe Canyon Fire is a full suppression fire with an emphasis on protecting communities and utilizing tactics that have the highest probability of success, while ensuring firefighter and public safety.

Weather: Critical conditions persist and a Red Flag Warning is in place until 9PM tonight. With poor overnight recoveries, humidity will again fall into the single digits to low teens. Temperatures will be in the low 70s at high elevations. Winds will be from the southwest 10-15 mph with gusts to 30 mph.

Current Situation: Saturday, firefighters scoured the Magleby area to extinguish hot spots near structures while clearing large amounts of downed trees from the extreme fire behavior. Evacuation notices are in place for all residences in Magleby, Monroe Meadows, Cove Mountain, Elk Country Cabins, Long Flat, Big Lake, Porters, and Paulsen's through Bear Valley and around Mormon Peak. Intense fire activity is now present in the Glenwood Mountain, Magleby Pass, and Monument Peak areas. Firefighters and aircraft are working to stop the fire’s progression along ridgelines east of Magleby and plan to hold the fire west of Road 04A.
