Hearts condemn pitch invasion and threatening behaviour at Celtic Park

Heart of Midlothian (Hearts) has condemned the behaviour of some Celtic fans following Saturday's Scottish Premiership title decider, describing it as an 'embarrassment to Scottish football'. The incident occurred after Callum Osmand's goal secured Celtic the title, leading to hundreds of supporters invading the pitch. Hearts reported 'disturbing' instances of serious physical and verbal abuse towards players and staff, prompting the team to be escorted off the pitch before the match had officially ended. The chaotic scenes forced Hearts to leave Celtic Park within ten minutes of full-time due to a threatening atmosphere. The club expressed that their players and staff were denied the opportunity to thank their supporters for the season-long backing. Hearts called on the Scottish Football Association and Scottish Professional Football League to take the strongest possible action, while also engaging with Police Scotland regarding the matter. Celtic manager Martin O’Neill acknowledged that any harassment of Hearts players would be 'pretty serious', and former Scotland international James McFadden described the behaviour as 'unacceptable'. Hearts paid tribute to their own team, staff, and supporters, emphasising that none deserved the distressing events that unfolded. The club’s statement highlighted concerns for player safety and the integrity of the game, calling for accountability in response to the incidents.
