The “#Pinacate and Gran Desierto de Altar Biosphere Reserve” in the State of #Sonora, #Mexico, is one of the most spectacular and inhospitable places on Earth (temperatures can reach 50 C in summer) but it is home to a binational (US-Mexico) ethnic group, the #Tohono O’odham, who consider this dormant volcanic field as sacred ground. They believe their main god, I'itoi, resides in this place, where the universe was also created. The Pinacate is a #UNESCO World Heritage site since 2013.
