And who doesn't love a sleepy little meerkat?

Once I spotted this bald eagle at the Phoenix Zoo, I had an immediate impression this bird was disgruntled if not outright pissed off. Being the national bird of the US, I thought of the present state of affairs in the US, especially the nasty politics. And then this quote came to mind “A republic, if you can keep it.”

--Benjamin Franklin's response to Elizabeth Willing Powel's question: "Well, Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?" 9/17/1787

We made it! Saw about 1/2 the zoo in 2 hours-of course 1/3 the animals were hiding away in the shade since a sunny day at 95° before noon is mighty toasty. Lots of work for John to push Drew in his transport chair all that way. Drew was happy but barely able to sit up 2 hours in. We left and agreed it was a great outing. A hundred photos in regular cameras but there may be 5-6 keepers. Drew down on a nap now after quick lunch. Obligatory giraffe photo shows this was not in Africa.
