Also listening tonight, "Fallout From The Phil Zone". This is a nice compilation of #GratefulDead live recordings cherry-picked by #PhilLesh from 1997.

Some truly great tunes and versions here, e.g. a best ever "Jack-A-Roe" and nice "Visions Of Johanna". Ends with a superb "Box Of Rain" which he composed and sang.

Phil's liner notes are great. He e.g. mentions #Coltrane influencing their early jamming style. Possibly it was this that got me into #jazz and Coltrane etc.

#RIP #PhilLesh. Thanks for the music.

Now playing #GratefulDead "Terrapin Station", a live CD set from his 50th birthday (15th March 1990). BTW what a great Jack Straw to start the set with!

Phil Lesh was not just a bass player. Admittedly he wasn't a songwriter or a singer, but he wasn't just a background member either but brought some diverse and experimental instrumental edge to the band that defined the Dead.

#PhilZone tonight.

#SocialMedia post from #PhilZone today announces death of #Berkeley born and founding #GratefulDead bassist #PhilLesh at age 84

Saw him play bass the most of any.
Crushed.
