Lennie Tristano, also known as Tristano, is a 1956 album by jazz pianist Lennie Tristano. At its release, the album was controversial for its innovative use of technology, with Tristano overdubbing piano and manipulating tape speed for effect on the first four tracks...

In 1997, The New York Times dubbed the album a masterpiece.[7] Thom Jurek from AllMusic described the album as "gorgeous [...] with a beautiful juxtaposition between its first and second halves, with the rhythmic and intervallic genius of Tristano as an improviser on full display during the first half and the pianist as a supreme lyrical and swinging harmonist during the back half."[4]

The Penguin Guide to Jazz Recordings included the album in its suggested "core collection" of essential recordings. - Wikipedia

@JL32 Must look up Mike Nock. Ronnie Ball came from #Birmingham UK, with its distinctive accent. He died in the 80s. I never saw him. But #PeterInd became Tristano’s studio bassist (preferring #SonnyDallas for gigs though Ind may have had other commitments). I spoke at length with Ind, a gracious man with some very strange beliefs associated with #WilliamReich. He retained his generic South England accent. He absolutely adored Lennie and bought into all of his esoteric ideas.
@JL32 FTW. In the 1940/50s some really good musicians comprising the orchestras of the great transatlantic liners (nicknamed #Geraldo’s Navy) would take lessons with the legendary Manhattan based pianist #LennieTristano. So #PeterInd (bass) and #RonnieBall (piano) would study at 317 E 32nd St during the 3-4 week turnaround. Alan Broadbent too studied with Tristano (photo) but a generation later I think. Also he didn’t fully absorb Tristano’s rather stringent requirements.
