News is doing the rounds that a production company has purchased the rights to make a reboot of cult sci-fi classic Blake's 7.

Reboots have been tried before and haven't been all that successful.

There's certainly potential for a reboot to go down areas the original series didn't - what did Olag Gan do that warranted a Limiter being fitted and the back story of Space Commander Travis - as well as expand on things mentioned briefly in the series...

Things like in "Breakdown", Blake threatens to destroy Professor Kayn's hands if he doesn't operate on Gan. That's really very nasty - has he made and delivered on those kinds of threats before?

There is huge room to explore the "retraining therapy" Travis underwent, unless the new producers prefer to stick with one version of Travis.

Then there's the casting. Paul Darrow's portrayal of Avon is iconic amongst the fanbase. The same goes for Jacqueline Pearce's Supreme Commander Servalan. What directions will the new producers take for those vital roles?

If they get either or both of those roles miscast or misperformed, the existing fan base may not be kind.

This might not even make it to screen, so all we can and will do for now is watch events and reports with interest.
