Oh, the joys of being partially deaf...
I've just watched a Watts The Safeword video in which they said asshole a lot. I had the subtitles turned on because I was eating, and I'm partially deaf.
I noticed that each time they said asshole, it was censored in the subtitles.
So.... let me get this straight. YouTube thinks that people who can hear, like myself, are tough enough so that they can hear the word asshole. However, it also thinks that people who need captions, like myself, are too fragile to read the word.
So which one am I? Am I tough enough, or too fragile?

Yeah... last night I tried to watch Vesper. I tolerated it about half-way through the movie. What I saw was competent, but not gripping.
What killed that movie for me, however...
... was the bloody mumbly dialogue. I'm surprised I tolerated it that long. Why can't people enunciate clearly anymore???
"But people mumble in real life!"
The occasional mumble wouldn't be an issue, but when a character's baseline is "mumble mumble mumble," this is a huge problem.
Consider movies to be like theater. Nobody IRL yells their murderous thoughts at an audience, while pretending that 5 feet from them, their intended victim cannot hear them.
In the movies, the baseline should be normal enunciation, even if your moping teenager prays at the altar of Mumblarg The One Who Shall Be Mumbled. (Probably *mumbles* at the altar.)
After giving up on Vesper, I switched to Northern Exposure, and OMG the difference! I could hear *almost* every single line. What a difference!
It's no wonder I want to watch old shows. Basic production values have gone down the drain.
"Oh, look at our amazing CGI!"
Yes, but if I cannot hear your dialogue, the CGI is wasted.

It is really fun when you're partially deaf and one of the songs you listen too has some sort of soft melody playing under the main tune.
You turn around, wondering whether your phone or some other device is playing that melody, until you realize that it is part of the song.
I thought I'd also give you a shot of the other shirt I have in my store. I received this sample over the weekend.
I realize this one is a bit more personal. I mishear the lyrics of Cracker Island by Gorillaz as:
They told themselves to be a cow.
The real lyrics are:
They taught themselves to be occult.

(I'll remind you that I'm partially deaf.)

I got a pair of Soundcore Life Q30 today.
Why?
Because my old pair of crappy headphones was too crappy. Sometimes someone comes up for a Dharma talk and either I cannot hear them, or I have to really strain to make out what they are saying. It is even worse when the HVAC in my apartment is running.
For the Dharma talk lastTuesday, I put my headphones on, but the HVAC came on and messed things up.
I'm hoping the Soundcore headphones will help. I've paired them with my HDTV. I can already notice a nice bass boost compared to my earbuds. (That was to be expected. Earbuds are really not good at replicating bass.)

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver ended with a humorous skit about dollar stores. The store in the skit was called Dollar Bucket.
Sometimes I heard Dollar Fuck It, which all things considered, is not a bad name given the disinterest shown by upper management.
Sometimes, partial deafness can reveal some interesting things.

I invented a new word. (New to me.)
to tinnitate, tinnitating, tinnitated: to suffer from tinnitus.
(And someone will tell me that Joe over there had already coined it. π’ )
