Night fell.
Yael drove Kevin back to her place.
She watched as he gawked at the interior of her late model Honda.
Either it looked alien to him or he was the alien.
No one spoke.
Knowing Joseph was still in the past kept Yael's mouth shut.
Kevin was stunned.
Back at her place, Kevin ran to the bathroom.
A few minutes later she knocked, "You okay?" She heard tears then opened the door.
On the bowl Kevin wept holding a roll of TP. He looked up and his voice shook, "It's two-#ply."

She harvested wild marsh flax and spun it into fine thread, shining silvery white. At mid Goose Moon, she'd take what she's spun to the water villages for barter or sale. Everyone wanted some--just a short length would do--as having it sewn or woven into a garment brought blessings of and protections from the marsh waters. She only traveled in fair weather, and people would point to the wake from her paddle: a shining silver two-#ply thread unraveling behind her.
