Oxford High School shooter’s parents sentenced to 10-15 years in prison

The parents of the Oxford High School shooter were sentenced to 10-15 years in prison Tuesday on involuntary manslaughter charges for their role in the killings of four students in 2021.

Though James and Jennnifer Crumbley didn’t pull the trigger that killed teenagers Madisyn Baldwin, Tate Myre, Hana St. Julianna and Justin Shilling, they are being held responsible for their actions that made it possible for their son, aged 15 at the time, to open fire on his fellow classmates and teachers at Oxford High School on Nov. 30, 2021.

“I will never walk her down the aisle as she begins the journey of starting her family,” Steve St. Juliana said, telling the Oakland County judge the pain he and his family feel after his daughter Hana was killed. “I am forever denied the opportunity of holding her future children in my arms.”

All of the family members that gave victim impact statements talked about the irreversible damage the Crumbley family has caused on their lives and pleaded with the judge to sentence James and Jennifer to the maximum sentence after their son was sentenced to life without parole in December.

No one asked that James and Jennifer be psychic, Judge Cheryl Matthews said as she gave her sentence, just that they would’ve responded to any one of the chances they had to prevent the killings.

Crumbley hearing: Detective details chaos inside Oxford High School after shooting

Detective Lt. Tim Willis of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office opened the testimony in Thursday’s Miller hearing for convicted Oxford school shooter Ethan Crumbley.

The detective, as part of his testimony, described the scenes inside the school in the minutes after gunfire erupted, killing four students and injuring seven other people. Crumbley, then 15, was arrested within minutes inside the school.

When approached by deputies, Ethan Crumbley readily surrendered, placing the handgun on a garbage can near him, kneeling down and placing his hands in the air. He didn’t try to run or fight, Willis said.

While Willis remained on the stand, video footage of the shooting was played. Crumbley kept his head down throughout the entire presentation.
