I got the #otterbox Defender case for my #iPhone 17.
It’s very robust and grippy, but one thing I did not like was how much force the rubber flip-up USB-C port cover put on my USB cable when the phone was plugged in.
I took a soldering iron, set it to 200°C (the lowest setting) and very carefully held the rubber USB-C port cover open at the maximum backwards “flipped open” angle, and ran it gently across the rubber along the inside bending part, melting a small line.
That appears to have dramatically and permanently reduced the amount of force it has against the connector when it’s open and it still looks to be fairly sturdy.
Downside is that the cover may break off a lot earlier like it did after about two years on my iPhone 14 Pro but I can live with that. (Most cases have NO USB-C port cover at all.)
