lamb ๐Going from Link's Awakening to just starting Oracle of Seasons I can immediately feel how much more concise Link's Awakening is in its overworld and dungeon layout. Every section of the game has a purpose whereas with Oracle of Seasons I get the sense that a lot of the sections of the map are just for setdressing or to make the trek longer. It could be that the Oracle games were developed with Ocarina of Time as inspiration, so maybe the devs thought big empty spaces = epic. Maybe I'm just not far enough in the game to have realized that each section does indeed have a purpose. No spoilers, please!! โ:pra:โ
The rooms in the dungeons are a lot bigger and the camera can scroll, but with not a lot filling these rooms up. Like they'll have like 5 enemies in a room spread out and I feel like the same thing could have been accomplished by simply making the room smaller and positioning the enemies closer together.

The Art of Sara MortimerMore study sketches! This time I referenced the work of Yusuke Nakano, lead artist on the Zelda Oracle games on GBC, and Ocarina of Time on N64. I leaned more towards adapting the Oracle designs into my own style, while for Ocarina of Time I followed the designs more closely for practice.
I used to do this sort of thing a lot when I was younger - it's nice getting back to drawing just for myself again <3

For #VGMWednesday this week I have Maple the Witch's Theme from the Oracle games. In the game on random map screens Maple will appear flying low on her broom, and if you get in her path you'll both drop a bunch of items. Then it's a scramble to see who can pick up all of the valuable ones first!
I don't know why she prefers to pick up bombs over rupees. You can buy bombs with the rupees girl!
