I’m having a hard time with #OFFLFIRSOCH this year (and this is a good thing).
Last year’s challenge made me think about how I use the internet, and inspired me to replace much of my web usage with local tools. E.g.: I use sdcv for local dictionary lookups, started installing all the “optional” -doc packages for programs I use (e.g., imagemagick-doc and ffmpeg-doc are must-haves), and grabbed a couple ebooks with knot-tying instructions. I recorded OFFLFIRSOCH ideas as they came to me and always found a work-around before I started writing code.
At this point I pretty much only hit the internet when I want to read something that a person has published to the net (be that a blog post by a stranger or a toot from someone I follow). I still check the weather online but I can even get weather radio on my HT if I had to.
I’ll probably put together something simple and post it on my smol log by the end of the weekend, but I’d be doing that more to acknowledge the event than to fill a strong need.
