Russia has significantly increased construction at a remote Arctic island location where it conducts nuclear tests, new satellite imagery shows, suggesting Moscow may be intending to resume tests.
Amid dark rhetoric from the Kremlin, lawmakers and propagandists with threats to abandon the test ban treaty, there are hardly any visible indications at Russia’s Arctic test site substantiating ongoing preparations to resume nuclear tests.
New paper published in Seismological Research Letters today: "Seismic Monitoring of Novaya Zemlya: Progress, Challenges, and Prospects" by Tormod Kværna, Ben Dando, and myself. We examine the status and progress of monitoring for seismic disturbances at or near to the former Soviet nuclear test sites on Novaya Zemlya.
