Thanks to the need to walk the dog I visit this park twice almost every day. And thanks to the chickens the morning visit is often so early that no one else is around and there's that quiet, contemplative atmosphere. So I notice tree roots and think of _Dirt: The Ecstatic Skin of the Earth_ where the writer mentions how there is just as much biomass underground as aboveground in a forest. And how we should remember that the tree roots reach out and around as far as the canopy does.. In parks sometimes a long root is visible along the surface and the sight provides and opportunity to notice that canopy-to-rootscape(?) correspondence.
And during times of quiet contemplation, SImone Weil comes to mind too. Deep attention is prayer.. And we need quiet time for attention to be decent.. And how the "tree is rooted in the sky"....
