I’m thinking about all the antecedents of such major capital ships. Beginning with the Mary Rose arguably, but really getting some steam up (pardon the pun) with the commisioning of the Dreadnoughts, followed by the German pocket battleships (though one can make a case that these represented an evoution of the Cruiser), the Yamato which ran from growing US Air power in the Pacific, and the New Jersey class battleships which saw service in VietNam as offshore batteries (souped up arsenal ships) a role they were not designed for though served well.
Few of these giants lived to be decommissioned. What their worth in conflict really is has been and will be debated for decades still. One thing is for certain. These large unique capital ships were all ‘flag bearers’ proudly displaying the egocentricity of their flag country on the seven seas. Political power and gunboat diplomacy aside, it fits KingDonnie’s personality to a tee. Let’s hope a minimum number of lives will need to be sacrificed to this new symbol of a decaying PaxAmerica.
