I've been chatting back and forth with a mate about the shift in community perceptions around Australia Day.
A shift is underway, but I am still determining what has driven this in recent years. People might have had time to reflect during lockdowns and curfews.
I wanted to start my 'research' into the evolution of public opinion by re-watching Pat Fiske's 1988 documentary "Australia Daze"; however, NSFA seems to have pulled it from public view and popped a price tag.
While the film is worth its $7 fee, it makes it harder to share with people who may not know how much things have changed yet stayed the same since 1988.
It used to run on SBS each January 26th; if you can get your hands on it in the meantime, I'd recommend a viewing.
In the meantime, I will be trawling through Trove (the national treasure) to find more info about the stuff I wrote about just now...
