Here's a paper objecting to #APCs (among many other things). So far, so good. I share those objections.

But it says, "This financial burden can discourage researchers from pursuing traditional publication routes."
I'm stuck on the word "traditional". To me, traditional publication routes are #subscription (#nonOA) journals.
Are these authors saying that subscription journals charge APCs? (False.) That APC-based OA journals are now "traditional"? (Stretched.)
