Yes, your local credit union will have far fewer branches and ATMs than BigBankCorp. But in an age when it's possible to deposit a check by taking a photo with your phone, this is less of an issue than it used to be.
If you're on the fediverse, you already value the things credit unions value: staying small, operating for community benefit, investing locally. So move your money!

I've had my share of scammy or just plain weird things happen with accounts and cards, and every time I've been able to call the credit union hotline and reach a human being right away, a human being who could resolve my problem or explain how I could resolve it.

A message for my US friends:
This year, stick it to The Man and give yourself the gift of improved customer service by moving your money from BigBankCorp to a credit union. Credit unions differ from banks in that they don't operate for maximum profit: they exist to serve their members. A credit union, for example, won't charge you a fee for the privilege of having a checking account, even if it has a low balance.
