This is utterly fascinating for me. Deeply talented fella here, and with something to say about our society.

I am struck by the divergence between this form of art, and the photography I pursue. I first realised this difference when I met my wife, Shellie. She was doing food photography and food styling, with an emphasis on the styling.

Shellie creates the scene, and takes a photo. I do not. I look for the scene in the moment. We start at different ends of the spectrum. Over time we have each seen value in stepping into the overlap between the two. That has been our journey.

Food photography is a little easier than landscapes or auroras, or travel and portraits. And very different to the scale of what Michael Cook is doing here. He is constructing a scene, and the camera is purely functional. I am almost allergic to changing my scenes, and I feel uncomfortable whenever I am asked to pose people.

I'm a big fan of people who spend their time prodding AI into doing weird, interesting, and possibly even useful things. Seeds is an annual zine about just that
