It was the Jet Age and rockets to the moon. Stylists were trying to be futuristic and adventurous.

Some of the less extreme examples can be seen by the peak tail fin era of the late 50s and early 60s as well as turbine styling in tail and head lights

My 1962 #MercuryMeteor has cool rocket tail lights and fender mounted ornaments that look like fighter plane gun sights

Part of the conversation was the fact that neither of us has ever purchased a vehicle that was less than 15 years old (we are both in our early 60s and have been driving since the late 70s)

My most recent purchases fall in line, a 2008 Honda and a 1962 Mercury and may well be the last cars I buy...

I am currently camping in a junkyard in Salem OR

My brother is retiring and a sale is pending on the property

He already sold his house and is living on site in another camper while he finishes clean up

He ran a towing and auto salvage operation for 30 years here

The 62 Mercury pictured is a new toy of mine too, also a springtime acquisition

Thankfully the #MercuryMeteor is protected by #MontgomeryWard and their vast network of repair shops and roadside assistance

Especially in the greater South Bend Indiana region
