The Highlander HGN-732B is my strongest mech. It's got powerful long range weapons that can win an engagement before an enemy gets close. Plus, the jump jets let you take pot shots at enemies hiding behind cover. Even if something gets too close for LRMs, they'll be facing a wall of armor + 3 medium lasers and an SRM 6 ART IV. And the Gauss rifle gets even deadlier at close range, where the high accuracy and damage can just blow out cockpits.
The Zeus ZEU-5T is a mech that took me a while to appreciate. It's armor and weapons are lighter than most assault mechs, and the 3 different long range weapons felt awkward. Then I realized it was more about picking the right tools for the job, not firing everything at once. You can hit fast targets, conserve ammo, do close range, or do indirect fire, etc.
The Zeus also has the best maneuverability of any assault mech, so you can choose the engagement that's ideal.

My wife liked the twin AC20s on #KingCrab KGC-0000, but was concerned that 40 rounds wouldn't be enough. So we downgraded the large laser to a medium laser, and spent some of the extra tonnage to double the ammo to 80 rounds. It seemed excessive to me, but then a rival Merc company dropped on our head with an Annihilator, and she carved them up, along with most of the other heavy mechs we encountered that mission. She ended with 4 rounds to spare.
